3D Quality Control

The concept of 3D Quality Control is to capture the 3D shape of a product at some stage in its production process and to compare it metrically with the expected ideal shape. Large and small geometric deviations can be detected, yielding many applications such as the inspection of cast parts, extruded metals, bended plates, welded tubes, missing components on an assembly board, etc ...

The added dimension of depth in 3D Quality Control allows to tackle inspection tasks which could not be solved previously with image-based 2D Quality Control, e.g. the detection of indentations in textureless objects, the detection of the presence or absence of a component on a board with the same color, volume computations, etc ...

3D Quality Control can be performed both outside the production process on samples or inline on every item, e.g. as products pass by on a conveyor belt. Speed and accuracy are crucial in order to eject faulty products from the production process as soon and as reliable as possible, leading to cost savings and a higher quality guarantee.
