Barcode Detection and Reading

Industrial cameras can be used to automate the detection and decoding of barcodes on items.
Barcodes are present on nearly every product being shipped around these days. Automatic inventory control and product tracing throughout the supply chain would hardly be possible if it wasn't for these crucial pieces of information. Correct barcode reading and the speed with which this can be achieved therefore have a direct impact on the inventory and tracing processes.

One of the advantages of industrial cameras over the classic barcode scanners is that more image information is available to make even the reading of deformed or damaged barcodes possible. Additionally, digital images of those barcodes which could not be decoded automatically can be stored so that an operator might attempt to deduce the product from the stored image in order to keep inventories up to date and reduce the risk of lost items.
