Foam Inspection
Gaps in the surface structure of foam elements may cause these elements to break when brought under tension. These gaps are seed points for crack formation. To ensure the structural integrity of the elements their surface can be inspected using a 2D image-based quality control system.
In this specific inspection task the four sides of a beam element needed to be checked for surface defects.
A calibrated camera system is able to both detect the defects and quantify them metrically. The metrical quantification allows to eliminate only those elements where the dimensions of the defects exceed a safety threshold.
